Hwang Jin Yi acted by Song Hye Kyo, is a movie from South Korea which portrays a Gisaeng. From an aristrocrat family, Jin Yi finds herself in love with her childhood friend and steward Nom yi. Love cannot always conquer all, and because of their social status, they can never be together. She was bound to marry an aristocrat when a scandal about her past and real blood line was rumored and found out. Jin Yi was a daughter of a slave. Though adopted by the Hwang family, her real father which is Hwang's head master who has already passed away, raped his wife's maid. And because of this, his wife covered up his tracks by adopting his daughter and making her slave leave the place. Jin Yi's real mother became a Gisaeng and lived among the heathen and worked on a brothel.

Nom yi found out about this. Thought he could bring Jin Yi to his level so they may be together. He revealed her secret to the aristocrat family she was supposed to marry. That's when her misery started. She decided to become a Gisaeng as her biological mother have been. Nom yi was crest fallen that he can never have the woman he love and was full of sadness when he learned she was to turn herself into a Gisaeng. He could never have her. He became her protector at first but decided to live her because of the hurt he feels every time he sees her with another man in her arms. Although he left her, he still lingered as much a possible to see her. Jin Yi truly loved Nom yi, but it just couldn't happen.

Nom yi turned into a bandit, Jin Yi became the best Gisaeng in her place. But faith was still cruel for these two. Nom yi was killed. Jin Yi couldn't bare Nom yi's fate she went away and scattered his ashes in the high land....

Words from me:
I have been waiting for this movie for the past year. Loved the movie, but not to the extend of giving it 5 stars. If not for Song Hye Kyo and her leading man, I wouldn't have continued watching this. It was so sad that I rated this as a cry fest kind of movie. Why does drama's always end up in tears? Was a bit draggy and the story line was a bit berserk. I love happy endings, my biasness kicked off. So basically, it only earned 3 stars from me. It didn't end happy.

What I really loved about the movie, was the fight scenes. (Her leading man did look hot in here) and Hwang Jin Yi's outfit. Definitely glamorous for her time. I guess the fashion designer did put a hint of modernization on her dress although it was supposed to be on the olden time. Anyways, she was one of the greatest Gisaeng's after all. The least producers can do was dress her nicely.
